At Udacity, we use mockups to brainstorm a lot of ideas and then narrow down what works (and what doesn't) as we develop a prototype, and finally a final product.

One great way to find open source projects is by searching Github repositories. In this case study, Andrea wanted to look for existing video annotation tools. Here is what happens when you search video annotation on Github. As you can see, there are many code repositories that can be useful to consult or even to use as a starting point for a different project.
